Teams Rooms Goes Pro for Hybrid Meetings

Teams Rooms is to consolidate and present a new package called Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro, announced yesterday.

Nicole Herskowitz, Vice President, Microsoft Teams, said the offering would bring together all the features, innovations and the management of the service platform all under the umbrella of one licence.

Teams Rooms has already bagged more than 60% of Fortune 500 companies for employee connections for hybrid meetings. In contrast, according to the Microsoft FY22 Fourth Quarter Earnings Conference Call: active Teams Rooms devices have more than doubled year over year.

Meetings Ready for Video?

Although most meeting rooms can assist in hybrid work, many still gear towards the people who are physically in attendance. According to Herskowitz’s blog post from September 2021, “Brace yourselves: Hybrid work is hard. Here’s how Microsoft Teams and Office 365 can help”, still less than eight per cent of 90 million conference rooms globally are ready for video.

Added Features

Teams Rooms Pro will include all the previous features but will add intelligent audio and video, increased engagement, powerful collaboration, management and security. Audio and video enhancements include front row, noise suppression, and bandwidth optimisation, while advanced camera functionality uses AI to capture the active speakers and help involve remote viewers.

An intelligent speaker picks out those speaking while transcribing to chat while a ceiling tile microphone records the audio of the meeting. A teams panel (below) provides meeting room availability at a glance.

Classic Teams Rooms facilitation such as wireless shared content, raise hands, and live reactions remain for better engagement. Using the video grid layout, chat bubbles let participants know about conversations happening alongside the meeting.

Intelligent Capture

Attendees can collaborate powerfully through a Microsoft Whiteboard and a Microsoft Surface Hub 2S. The intelligent capture of an analogue whiteboard means participants can pull out the information presented to them on screen. With a second large display (below), content presents clearly to everyone during the meeting.

Robust Security and Operations for Teams Meetings

Teams Room Pro delivers enterprise-grade access control, remote configuration, device analytics and IT service management (ITSM) integration for surveillance and security. By retaining the Teams Rooms managed service platform, it continues to provide AI-driven operations that automate updates, problem detection, and resolution at scale.

The Must-Have for Hybrid Enterprise

Vice President Herskowitz reiterated that as the future of work is flexible, Microsoft commits to bridging the gap between physical and digital workspaces. Also, exemplary meeting room experiences have gone from “nice to have to must have”. To meet the demand from businesses and organisations looking to raise the level of their hybrid work Microsoft Teams Pro makes things easier. To this end, Herskowitz added:

Teams Rooms Pro simplifies the purchasing process for our customers and delivers the collective benefits of our advancements in hybrid meeting experiences and device management.

On closer inspection, compared with the Premium package, the new Teams Pro initiative on the managed service platform may appear like a downgrade. But for $10 cheaper per device, Pro comes with features comparable to the existing Teams Rooms Premium.

The new Teams Rooms Pro meetings package announcement follows a host of recent additions to the Microsoft Teams platform, from classroom improvements to added Polls and quizzes for participant engagement, and how it was recently revealed it provides connections to 12 million PTSN users.
